Beverage Industry Rallies to Support One of its Own

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 26, 2013

On Wednesday, July 31st, 2013, SoHo Experiential, in conjunction with HelpHOPELive, will host The Murphathon to benefit the Midwest/West Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, in honor of Lauren Murphy, who suffered a traumatic brain injury while traveling on business in April. The evening affair, which will be held at the Mercedes Club in Manhattan, will raise funds to help cover the uninsured costs of Murphys recovery. Tickets are $ 100 each ($ 75 for experiential marketing industry members), and are available online at http://bit.ly/murphathon.

Laurens accident was a hard blow to our work family here at SoHo, remarked Jeff Boedges, founding partner of SoHo Experiential. She is missed every day. We are all hoping for a full and speedy recovery, but until then, we are doing what we can in order to relieve some of the financial burden that is being placed on her family during this time.

The event will be held at The Mercedes Club, 550 W. 54th St., New York, NY, and will include a live and silent auction, a treadmill marathon and raffle to raise funds in honor of Lauren and her rehabilitation expenses. The fundraiser has already secured sponsorship from several companies in the industry that will be donating time, product or auction items to the cause. Sponsors for the event include: R?my Cointreau USA, The Macallan, Brugal Rum, Brown Forman USA, Dos Equis, Caf? Metro, Mercedes Club, Stack Wines, William Grant and Sons, Asics and countless others.

The centerpiece of The Murphathon is the Marathon that 29 sponsored runners will complete on treadmills as a tribute to Lauren, who was training for the NYC Marathon prior to her accident, explained Rick Kiley, partner at SoHo. The first 25 runners, comprised of friends, clients and business associates, will each run a mile; the final 1.2 miles will be completed by four of her siblings, which we feel will be a touching moment for everyone present.

While traveling on business in Los Angeles, Lauren suffered severe head trauma when a car struck her during a morning run on April 19, 2013. She was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood immediately following the accident and underwent life- saving brain surgery. She is currently undergoing recovery therapy at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. For more information about Laurens story, please visit http://bit.ly/laurenmurphy.

Were extremely touched by the outpouring of goodwill weve seen from our colleagues, clients and friends, Kiley continued. Witnessing the solidarity that results when one of our own is in need, makes everyone at SoHo very proud to be a part of both beverage and experiential marketing industries.

Tickets are now on sale, and donations are still being accepted for the event in the form of auction and gift bag items. Those who wish to submit an item, package or experience for the event should contact Kate Kelley at kate(at)sohoexp(dot)com. Select items will be chosen for auction online at charitybuzz.com, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwgcSiUnKSc.
